How to Manage Trade Areas

The first thing to remind you is that the number of business trade areas is determined by your subscription type.  Our system allows the following.  Please note that Accommodations, Hotels, Food, and Restaurants automatically are generated with the maximum number of trade areas at every subscription level. 

Basic Subscription  – 1 Trade Area 
Plus Subscription – 1 Trade Area 
Standard Subscription – 5 Trade Areas
Advanced Subscription – 10 Trade Areas 
Professional Subscription – 20 Trade Areas. 

Each province has major trade areas. Each major trade area may have other cities as secondary cities in a major trade area.  Towns follow with each town listed alphabetically in a major and secondary trade area.   Each entry will have a PDF of all the trade areas of the province with a listing displaying a hotel from that trade area.  Remember a trade area may encompass other cities and towns.

British Columbia has three major trade areas.   There are the lower mainland, the island, and interior British Columbia.   The Island has two major trade areas of Victora and Nanaimo.  Vancouver is the largest city on the lower mainland.   Kelowna is the largest city in the interior.  Other trade areas in the interior are Kamloops, Prince George, Fort St. John,  Cranbook, Salmon Arm, and Prince Rupert.  British Columbia Trade Areas

Alberta has two major trade areas.   They are Northern and Southern Alberta.

Ontario has many major trade areas and high population areas.   Our staff is continuing to work on trade areas for this province.  Currently, we have listed the cities of Toronto, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Chatham-Kent, and Windsor as main areas.  Trade areas will be updated further for this province.  ON Areas

Quebec has many major trade areas and high population areas.  Currently, we have listed the cities of Montreal, Québec, Gatineau, Sherbrook, Sagnuenay, Trois-Rivières and several others. QC Areas

New Brunswick has the major trade areas of Moncton and Saint John. NB Areas

Nova Scotia has the major trade area of Halifax. NS Area

Prince Edward Island has the major trade area of Charlottetown.  PE Areas

Newfoundland and Labrador have the major trade of  St. John’s.  NL Areas

Northwest Territories has the major trade area of Yellowknife.  NT Areas

How to Manage Categories on Safe and Trusted Canada.

Welcome to Safe and Trusted Canada.

This video is about managing your business categories for your business profile.   

We will use the profile Test Us Out as a demo account to ensure that understand the content management system. 

The content management system has many tabs that will impact your business profile.  Some areas apply to higher account types. 

The second one is the Categories Tab.   The first thing to remind you is that the number of business subcategories categories is determined by your subscription type.  Our system allows the following.

Basic Subscription  – 5 subcategories
Plus Subscription – 20 subcategories
Standard Subscription – 30 subcategories
Advanced Subscription – 40  subcategoires 
Professional Subscription – 60 subcategories. 

The exception to this applies to Restaurants and Hotels.  Those business categories are researched and categories automatically added by our admin staff to ensure that the consumer has a complete presentation of that business.   Hotel amenities, as well as types of restaurants, are necessary to the consumer.  

Each subscription level also affects Business placement in our database as well as the ability to add images, PDF documents and YouTube videos.   
Here is how it works. 

The consumer has search options.  They can search from the main site by business name, city, province or phone number.   They can even search by the last 4 digits of a phone number. 

The consumer can search by business category.   We never know what the consumer will search for in the categories and that is why we have options for the business owner. 

Placement of business categories in alphabetical order would be a nightmare for business owners to ensure they have the proper categories.   If the business goes to the tab trade areas you will quickly see how we have grouped the different major categories.  The reason for this is that businesses can easily ensure that they are selecting the proper categories for their business and consumers can easily compare similar groups of businesses. 

A business should select the primary category first and then the first subcategory in that primary to be properly indexed on our Site.

Jobs and Promotions are at the top of every trade area.   This is new to the Site.

Restaurants and Hotels, the hospitality area has the first group.

Automotive categories are in the second group.

Contractors are in the third group. 

Business Professionals are in the fourth group.

Health Professionals are in the fifth group.

Government and Cities are in the sixth group.

All other categories are in alphabetical order. 

As an example In the demo account, we have listed  Test Us Out in the roofing category.  We have listed the first subcategory under roofing which is contractors.   We have then listed a total of 19 subcategories. 

Some roofers will want to be listed in the Contractor area directly for more exposure. 

Some roofers that do other work with roofing may want to be seen under Eavestrough, Siding and Soffits.  Some may wish to be seen in the Renovation area.  Each subcategory increases exposure but may require the business to seek a higher subscription level.  The Professional Subscription offers the most options for overall value to the business owner. 

How to Manage Your Basic Profile on Safe and Trusted Canada

This video is about managing your Basic Profile on the Safe and Trusted Site.   The video is placed at the bottom of this post. 

The first thing you will notice is that one account holder can manage numerous listings and profiles.  We will use the profile Test Us Out as a demo account to ensure that you understand the content management system. 

The content management system has many tabs that will impact your business profile.  Some areas apply to higher account types.   

The first one is the Basic Info Tab.   Here you start with your Business Name, Address, City, Province, and postal code.   Please note that if this area’s content has extra spaces before or after the entry,  then the listing will show up as blank.  This will happen if you are copying content rather than entering content. 

Enter your phone numbers correctly with either a period or dash between the numbers. You do not have to enter a 1 before any of the numbers. 

Enter your email address.  Please note that the email address must coincide with the email address associated with the business from their website.  We often have marketing people acting as if they are the business owner, and for our purposes, we prefer to deal with only the business owner. 

The business owner has the option of receiving emails directly from consumers through Safe and Trusted Canada.  If this is turned off, the consumer needs to contact you directly by phone or your website.   If it is turned on, the consumer can use the Site to contact you through Safe and Trusted Canada.  This may increase spam to your email account, and if it does, you can revert to the original option available.  Remember to update your business frequently.  There are update buttons at the top and the bottom. 

You can use the affiliations area to place all your affiliations to organizations.  This may include Better Business Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, or other professional organizations.  If you place the name of the organization and then the link next to it the following will occur,  The link is displayed and the user can place the link into their browser to check the accuracy of your claim to that affiliation.  If the business has a professional subscription then the link automatically shortens and becomes a direct link. 

The start date of your business is simply the year.  

The About Us are allows the business owner to copy from their website or reinvent content that may not properly be displayed on their website. 

The Business Detail allows unlimited text but people like to see factual information first.  No puffery, just what you provide as a business.  Don’t forget to update your business. 

The Our Ideal Client area allows you as a business owner to place content in this area that can hone in on what you like to do as a business owner or who you like to work with as a business owner.  Choose your content well.  This content is not usually found on most websites. 

The What Makes Us Different area allows the business owner to indicate what may separate their business from their competition.  Rather than indicate what you think makes you different, tell the story as if your top clients were writing it in terms like this.  Our clients tell us that the following makes us different as a business. 

The Keywords area can be used to ensure that your profile is quickly seen on Safe and Trusted Canada.   It is not similar to Google keywords but to make it easier for consumers to find you on the Site.  An example of this is where your business name has special characters that consumers may not place into the search bar. 

The Now Hiring area can be filled out if you have a higher account status which allows more categories for your business. 

Similar to this is the Discounts and Promotions area.  This won’t work for you if you have a Basic Subscription.  You wouldn’t want to use these areas if it means that you are losing business categories..  Business categories increase by account type. 

You can upload your logo easily and should do so to have a better presentation. 

At the bottom, you will see Page Views.    This is the number of page views that the business has received and is confidential to the business owner only.  Please note that while you are working on your content management area, your page views do not increase.  It is only when the consumer or yourself views the live listing.   Remember to update your information. 

How to Change Your Password on Safe and Trusted Canada

Welcome to Safe and Trusted Canada.  This is a video tutorial about managing your profile on the Safe and Trusted Site.   

If you have an information-only profile, you are not able to manage your account.   You need to apply for account access.  If your business has been granted account access, you will receive an email notification that your account is active. Your username is your email address.  For security reasons, we do not send passwords through email or by phone.   You must reset your password.  

Select the click here link to reset your password.   The Site will send a special code to your email address.  Check your spam folder if you do not receive it.  Use the code to reset your password.  Remember that the owner of the business is responsible for all content entered into their profile.  Choose who can access your business account, and remember to change your password often.

Safe and Trusted Canada developed a system for displaying restaurants.   As the Site intends to present truthful and transparent information to consumers here is how it works. 

The Site can list any restaurant as an Information Only profile. The Information Only profile may be removed or modified at any time if the business is no longer in operation.   See our application.  Grow your Business Faster

The Site develops the profile with information already present on the internet.  This includes links to the restaurant as well as review links and social media links. Safe and Trusted Canada places more categories into the profile as well as trade areas.  Some restaurants may be in up to 50 trade areas so that the consumer can choose an area rather than a specific location.   This also gives smaller trade areas equal opportunity to attract guests from major population areas.  See the following video example. 

 

Safe and Trusted Canada may complete a composite review about the restaurant based on all the review sites.  Our composite reviews generally show that most review sites are generally close to each other in terms of the overall rating of the accommodation.  The composite review is instrumental in the positioning of the restaurant as it becomes the credibility score of the restaurant. 

Your restaurant may not have a credibility score in place as there is insufficient information or our staff have missed this for your business.   Please send us an email so that we can handle this promptly for your business.  Credibility scores determine placement in the Safe and Trusted database and those without a score are seen last in our database.  The consumer will still be able to see links to multiple review sites for the property. 

Our content management system allows the business owner to change the content at any time through their account.  If we receive approval from the business owner, then we transfer appropriate data from your website into our system.  This saves the business owner time, money and most of all gives it an instant presentation.  All that is needed is an email from the actual business owner or the assigned marketing representative by the owner. 

 

The restaurant may apply for a Basic Subscription.  If it does then the accommodation can display key elements about their business including their logo, what makes them different, who their ideal client is and much more.   The Basic Subscription is at no cost.  This will move the accommodation ahead of all other Information Only profiles.  The accommodation is displayed according to their credibility score.  See the Basic Subscription

The restaurant may apply for the Plus Subscription.  If it does then the restaurant can display everything that is included in the Basic Subscription. The Plus Subscription is at $99.00 Canada-wide.  The restaurant has the ability to remove any review sites in its profile with the exception of Google and Better Business Bureau.   This will move the restaurant ahead of all other Information Only profiles and Basic Subscriptions.  The restaurant is displayed according to its credibility score.  See the Plus Subscription.  

The restaurant may apply for the Standard Subscription.  If it does then the restaurant can display everything that is included in the Basic Subscription and Plus Subscription for $199.00 Canada-wide.
